Repost of Day 1

Since I have moved from Blogger over to WordPress, I am going to repost my first post from over there so all posts are on the same page. I will be posting more later this evening after Matt goes to sleep.

Today I am embarking on a voyage into the world of eating strictly plant-based foods…and coming out the other side a much skinnier and healthier me. I have decided to include all the vital stats of my potential weight loss in this blog, and I am not going hide anything from the world again. I have spent the past 6 years hiding myself away from world, and I just can’t do it anymore. I believe that I have suffered relentlessly from undiagnosed compulsive overeating disorder, which I believe is the root of many of my issues with food. However, no more hiding what I eat and when, so I will provide not only my triumphs but also my frustrations.

I have decided to follow the 21-day Vegan Kickstart from PCRM that starts on January 3rd to help initiate me into this full vegan based diet, but until that starts I am doing a juice fast this weekend. Consequently, for my first day of eating plant-based food, I started with fresh juice from our juicer. I put a few handfuls of baby spinach, a tomato, 4 carrots, a small granny smith apple, 4 stalks of celery, and an inch nub of ginger through the juicer. All I can say is WOW, it was WAY too much ginger and not very tasty, but it gave me amazing energy. I need to learn better ratios for taste, but for energy, I really couldn’t beat it. Tonight I plan to juice a couple of fresh oranges, an apple, a couple of carrots, and maybe a few grapes. With any luck, this will taste much better than my breakfast juice did…*shudder*

Now down to nitty-gritty…the measurements, weights, and pictures. This part of the blog I am going to dread posting, but I am going to keep my word and put it out there for anyone to read and see. For my first weigh in today, I weighed 235.4 lbs., which is almost the most I have ever weighed in my life. This weight makes me sad, but I am doing something about it so that makes me happy. My measurements in inches were as follows:

Each week as I hopefully lose weight, I will fill in the other 2 columns in the table. I will not fudge any numbers because I have made a promise to myself to be honest, not just with myself, but also with all of you. Pictures:

In addition to eating better, I will also be tracking my calories burned, calories consumed, steps taken, and sleep using the BodyMedia Fit. I have had it for about a month, and I have been wearing religiously but not tracking regularly, so I promise to be better at that.

Day 1 is well under way and I already feel more positive. My wonderful hubby and I are going for a walk with our dog, so I will write more later.
